You are looking at an 18 month secret passion project. Obsession, really. 18 months of pain, anger, frustration and sobbing tears.
18 months ago, I created a file in my Blender folder entitled, "Nebula Project"....innocent enough. In my naivete, I thought I could merely waltz over to YouTube and find a tutorial on making accurate nebulae. This began a trip down a rabbit hole so deep with so many trail running into it, I was completely overwhelmed. But.......I never did find an artist on any forum site, YouTube, Vimeo or website that was creating astronomically accurate 3D nebulae. I found many, many wonderful artists coming close and I will acknowledge them here. Essentially, I took all the parts of a nebula that each amazing artist got correct and tried to assemble it into one cohesive object. This is what you are looking at. Save for the hot blue stars and the glows in the nebula itself, this is ALL one object. Red stars and all.
I would like to thank the following for the amazing inspiration and in several cases, tutorials that helped my quest along the way,
Teun van der Zalm
I will not divulge my secrets of how I created this just yet. I am going to create quite few of these in different colors, forms and structures to show the ability of my node tree. Yes, this is all procedural. After a fashion, I will post the whole node set up on my Patreon and then you can all have at it!
